Girolamo
Savonarola
Programme until 1998 The Region of Tuscany, with
the help of the City Councils, Provinces, public boards for the arts and
the University of Tuscany, has organized and coordinated a series of events
that open this spring and continue until the end of 1998, to celebrate
the fifth centenary of the death of Girolamo Savonarola. Together with
the two large exhibitions on Fra' Bartolomeo in Florence and Fra' Paolino
in Pistoia, painters who worked at the time of Savonarola, we also include
a short list of the initiatives that have been planned throughout Tuscany
for next two years; they follow a historical and artistic itinerary that
is intended to repropose and deepen knowledge of the work and the importance
of Savonarola.

Savonarola itineraries in Tuscany. This is a specially prepared route
that includes didactic displays and various informative instruments that,
by linking up churches, convents and monasteries, make it possible to
reconstruct the effect of Savonarola's passage and influence on places
like Bibbiena, Montepulciano, Borgo San Lorenzo and San Miniato. The local
administrations will add to these initiatives by preparing their own special
itineraries. Seminars and conventions. Savonarola and politics in Florence
in October; Savonarola and the "tyranny" at Pistoia; Savonarola
and music at Siena. These are some of the subjective seminars that will
be held in various places in Tuscany and conclude with an international
convention in Florence on the study of Savonarola, planned for the spring
of 1998. Editorial programme. The acts drawn up during the seminars and
the international convention, as well as the exhibition catalogues, will
all be published, together with a series of videos, CD-Roms and a CD of
"Savonarolian" music. S.M. Vedi anche: Two
