An account by Dr.Daniela Chines (I)
My name is Dr. Daniela Chines and thirty years ago I was also one of the many volunteers who helped after the flood in Florence. I worked, in fact, at the National Library and, during my stay in Tuscany's main city, I had the pleasure of meeting the person who was then either the Head or the Director of Art Assets; when he saw my my interest in the books that it was still possible to save, he showed me round the room where they were being restored.
Although I was only sixteen at the time, it was an experience that I will never forget, in particular because of the atmosphere of self-sacrifice and brotherhood that brought so many people in that period to the birthplace of Dante and united them in the common cause, which was to bring a museum city like Florence back to life.
